Junior Portfolio Development (Ages 10 to 13) 1 1/2 hours : Junior portfolio preparation introduces students to viewing their artworks as a collection which represents their skills, ideas, and abilities. We will work together to understand and ensure a well rounded portfolio which exhibits both technique and imagination. Discussions will introduce some of art's major movements as a means of introducing vocabulary and expanding notions of art itself.

Senior Portfolio Development (Ages 14 to 17) 1 1/2 hours : This course is intended for students who wish to pursue a career in art and design at a post secondary institution. Together, we will look at your existing protfolio and direct it towards your future in the arts. Conversation around student's practice will reference major art movements as they relate to the student's work. We will begin to discuss issues of comtemproary art practice and its affects on current cultural movements. Portfolio preparation will include discussion and presentation of the student's art works as they relate to comtemporary art practice.

Adult Classes - Where Do We Come From? Intro to 2D and 3D Media for Adults: Whether you are an experienced painter or you have never picked up a paintbrush, this studio art course is for you. In a relaxing and casual atmosphere, and in a combination of art and art history, we will create artworks inspired by some of the 20th Century's greatest movements in Western Art. Students will use both traditional and non-traditional methods and materials as a means of understanding contemporary art practice. If you couldn't believe that the National Gallery spent on million dollars on "two stripes" (Voice of Fire by Barnett Newman), or can't understand why ' The Meat Dress" (Vanitas; Flesh Dress of an Albino Anorexic by Jana Starbuck) is considered art, this course will give you new ideas to consider the next time you go to an art gallery, as well as a means for self expression!

Just Drawing (pre-requisite Introduction to Methods and Materials I: Prerequisite Introduction to Methods and Materials I. Ages 9+

Introduction to Methods and Materials I : Projects are designed to introduce students to a wide variety of materials and methods. Students will learn the basics of handling professional materials wihile drawing, painting, and sculpting. We will move between 2 and 3 dimensional work in order to consider, and re-consider, the use and limits of various materials. Students will be introduced to an artist's vocabulary while they work and play in a setting that is both encouraging and exploratory.

In level 1 drawing, we focus on shapes and line control in order to create illusions of depth and space. Foreground, middle ground, and background are introduced as a means of manipulating a 2 dimensional surface. Painting basics will introduce a variety of methods in moving paint using both traditional and non-traditional tools on a variety of surfaces. Colour mixing will be empahasized in materials including watercolours, chalk and acrylic. We will consider sculptures' intrinsic physical properties necessary in the construction of a 3 dimensinal object.

Above all else, we learn of Art's incredible abiity to tell a story - our story. Students will be encouraged to see Art as a means of conveying a point of view specific to them, while learning techniques and strategies they can employ to this end. Ages 7,8,9 and 10,11,12

Introduction to Methods and Materials II (pre-requisite M&M I) : in level 2, projects are designed to further develop students' technical skills while expanding their perceptions of art making. Students discover new ways of combining media using both traditional and non-traditional methods and materials. Drawing lessons increase to include perspective and foreshortening. Painting utilizes colour theory and brushstroke as a means of communication. Sculpture increases its scope to consider ratio and proportion.

As artists, we begin to consider the relationship between material and meaning. What does choice of media, colour, and composition reveal about an artwork and the artist? How does experience shape our perception of our artwork and others? Students are encouraged to work from experience and observation while including their imagination. Ages 7-8-9 and 10-11-12 and 13 to 17
